Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the M15A engine assembly is 105 kg. The engine number M15A is located at the junction with the gearbox. The only serious problem of the engine is oil consumption on long distances, which is caused not only by worn-out rings, but also by the wear of valve seats or guides. The cylinder head gasket often gets blown due to overheating, as this aluminum engine cannot tolerate high temperatures. After 200,000 km, the situation worsens due to cylinder liner subsidence in the aluminum block. Another common issue with this engine is fluctuating idle speed. The usual cause is throttle or EGR valve contamination, as they tend to get clogged quickly. Unreliable sensors, especially the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor, often cause electrical failures. Ignition coils have a modest lifespan and sometimes don't last as long as spark plugs. Other drawbacks include the rapid deterioration of the catalytic converter, frequent oil leakage through the pressure sensor, low durability of engine mounts, and the need for valve adjustment every 30,000 km.
