Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the OM612 engine according to the catalog is 215 kg. The engine number OM612 can be found on the cylinder block. One problem with 5-cylinder diesel engines of this series is increased wear of the camshafts. The timing chain does not last long either, its lifespan is approximately 200-250 thousand km. Electrical issues often occur with the wiring of the injectors and the boost pressure sensor. The injectors quickly get coked up if the heat-resistant washers are not replaced during their disassembly. All other failures of this engine are related to the Common Rail fuel system.
