Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the OM611 engine according to the catalog is 190 kg. The engine number of the OM611 is located at the junction of the block with the gearbox. The most well-known problem of this unit is the burning out of the fireproof washers under the injectors. It is advisable to change them every 60,000 km, as the dismantling in neglected cases is expensive. The intake manifold here is equipped with plastic dampers, which simply jam and fall off, and then lubrication and soot start to come out through the holes of their axes. On minibuses with this engine, there may be a rotation of the inserts or crankshaft failure due to a drop in oil pressure, and many install an oil pump with a pair of gears from the OM612. Other problems that may arise are fuel leaks from the injection pump, EGR sticking, pressure regulator failure, and don't forget to fill the fuel filter when replacing it to prevent air from entering the system.
