Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the OM615 engine in the catalog is 220 kg. The engine number is located at the junction of the block and the head. The rear crankshaft seal is a common issue with this very reliable diesel engine, which is designed as a stuffing box. But it should not be ignored. The fuel system, equipped with a Bosch M type injection pump, has an individual lubrication system that needs to be serviced. Breakages of the drive shaft membrane and failure of the lift pump are also encountered. Despite its massive appearance, the timing chain does not last as long as the engine's lifespan. It is usually replaced along with its tensioners and sprockets every 200-250 thousand kilometers.
