Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the OM648 engine according to the catalog is 240 kg. The OM648 engine number is located on the cylinder block. The main problems of the diesel engine are related to the components of the Common Rail fuel system. The fuel delivery cutoff valve and the fuel rail pressure sensor often fail. Due to the burning of the fireproof washers under the injectors, the engine quickly becomes clogged. The usual cause of air intake in the system is the breakage of plastic quick connectors. The variable geometry intake manifold flaps often get stuck due to carbon deposits.
