Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the OM601 engine according to the catalog is 175 kg. The OM601 engine number is located at the front, at the junction with the cylinder head. These diesel engines are highly reliable when using high-quality fuel and oil. Cheap lubricants quickly wear out the pump parts, as well as the hydraulic compensators. Contaminated coolant often leads to engine overheating and cylinder head gasket failure. The weak point in the fuel system is the centrifugal clutch of the injection advance angle. The timing chain lasts for 200-250 thousand km, but if it breaks, the cylinder head may crack.
