Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the OM602 engine according to the catalog is 205 kg. The OM602 engine number is located at the front, at the joint with the cylinder head. Strong vibrations of this diesel engine have a negative impact on the lifespan of its supports. The timing chain serves for about 200 - 250 thousand km, and if it breaks, it cracks the cylinder head. When using cheap or old antifreeze, the cylinder head gasket often gets damaged. Hydrocompensators can start ticking at a mileage of 90,000 km due to low-quality oil. Another problem that owners face is the vacuum control system of the injection pump.
