Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the M104 engine according to the catalog is 195 kg. The engine number for the M104 can be found on the cylinder block. The main problem with power units of this series is numerous oil leaks. The gaskets that often leak are the "P-shaped" gasket, cylinder head gasket (ГБЦ), and the heat exchanger for the oil filter. The fan viscous coupling frequently fails, which is highly dangerous for the engine. This engine is very susceptible to overheating and can quickly lead to cylinder head damage. The engine wiring under the hood and ignition coils will also cause you many troubles.
