Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the G16B engine assembly is 110 kg. The G16B engine number is located at the junction with the gearbox. The most serious problem of the engine is the formation of cracks in the cooling jacket. There is no point in trying to weld the aluminum block when there is a coolant leak, it will crack again. The second most common breakdown is the formation of cracks in the exhaust manifold. It can be welded or you can find an updated version that was produced after 1994. As with any engine of that time, the outdated ignition system causes a lot of trouble, especially when the spark plugs get flooded during long starting attempts in freezing temperatures. According to the manual, the timing belt needs to be replaced every 90,000 km, but only the original one lasts that long, and many people use cheap substitutes. And it's fortunate that there is no valve breakage issue here. Other complaints on specialized forums are mostly related to oil leaks, usually coming from either under the distributor or directly through its pressure sensor.
