Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the FE-DE engine according to the catalog is 168.2 kg. The FE-DE engine number is located at the junction of the block and the cylinder head. Engines in this series are equipped with a 16-valve cylinder head, which is very sensitive to overheating. Hydraulic lifters do not tolerate cheap oil and quickly fail as a result. Closer to 200,000 km, oil consumption often begins due to piston ring deposits. The timing belt has a lifespan of approximately 60,000 km, but it will not cause any damage if a valve breaks. The remaining issues with the engine are related to oil leaks and temperamental ignition system.
