Engine Overview and Common Failures

The B38 engine number is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. The crankshaft thrust bearing suffered from excessive axial clearance on engines produced before 2015, and the bearing would fail at 50,000 km mileage. Later, the design was improved. Cracks in the manifold. The aluminum turbine housing with water cooling is integrated with the exhaust manifold and cracks due to overheating, leading to coolant leaks. Fluctuating RPM. Like all direct fuel injection engines, the intake valves here get clogged with carbon deposits, resulting in fluctuating RPM and unstable engine performance. Other weak points. Other weak points include the not-so-durable catalytic converter and the adsorber valve. Failures in the VANOS and Valvetronic systems are also common at high mileage.
