Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the Z16XER engine according to the catalog is 115 kg. The engine number Z16XER is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. Phase regulators: The first power units of this line were equipped with defective phase regulators, but they have long been replaced under warranty, and now the main problems here are associated with contamination of the grids of electromagnetic valves, which simply get stuck. Heat exchanger: The second most common complaint from owners is the constantly leaking oil heat exchanger, through which lubrication seeps into the coolant, and vice versa, antifreeze dilutes the oil, which significantly reduces the life of the oil pump and all engine bearings. Electrical problems: The finicky electrical system also causes a lot of trouble, and this applies to all engines in the family. The engine control unit (ECU) regularly malfunctions, usually due to its connectors rather than the board itself. The electronically controlled thermostat or ignition coil module often fails as well. Other shortcomings: The weak points of the engine also include the membrane of the crankcase ventilation valve, which constantly tears, perpetually leaking seals, and the lack of hydraulic compensators. And don't forget to monitor the condition of the timing belt, as valve bending can occur if it breaks.
