Engine Overview and Common Failures

The engine number B258i is located in front of the engine, next to the gearbox. The biggest trouble here is oil leaks, especially from under the valve covers. Oil often gets into the spark plug wells and causes starting problems. Also, oil can seep into the coolant through a corroded heat exchanger. There are many complaints online about timing belt failure, which almost always leads to bent valves. The oil pan is located too low and any damage to it can block the oil pickup.
