Engine Overview and Common Failures

- Together with the oil replacement in the radiator, 5.4 liters are needed. The engine number B204E is located in front of the engine, next to the gearbox. It is a reliable and durable turbocharged engine, but breakdowns occur at high mileage. The weak point of the design is the balance shaft, which many simply remove. With infrequent spark plug changes or from jump-starting, the ignition cassette may burn out. Closer to 250,000 km, attention is usually required for the oil pump and the timing chain needs to be replaced. Rare cases of crankshaft cap loosening have been observed, which is fatal for the engine.
