Engine Overview and Common Failures

The B204i engine is located at the front of the vehicle, next to the gearbox. It is a reliable naturally aspirated engine, but breakdowns can occur at high mileages. The main problems are related to the balancer shafts, which are often simply removed. After 200,000 km, the timing chain often stretches, causing it to rattle but not skip. Hoses and pipes also cause a lot of trouble, as they deteriorate over time. Weak points of the engine also include the oil pump, short-lived wiring, and the DV valve.
