Engine Overview and Common Failures

The dry weight of the M 02.2Y engine according to the catalog is 180 kg. The engine number M02.2Y is located in the front, below the crankshaft pulley. Compared to the 4.8-liter engine, this power unit is reliable and undemanding. The weak point of this engine is the plastic parts of the cooling system. The thermostat housing and the pipe to the pump often crack, resulting in coolant loss. After 200,000 km, you can expect an expensive procedure of replacing the timing chains with dismantling the engine. The throttle valves in the intake, ignition coils, and fuel pump in the tank are often a cause for concern.
