Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the 306DT engine according to the catalog is 230 kg. The engine number 306DT can be found in two places. The Bosch fuel system with piezo injectors is reliable, but there are cases where the high pressure fuel pump needs to be replaced. Cracking of valve covers and turbine geometry issues are common. The most serious problem is sudden engine seizure with crankshaft failure. The engine has three belts and it is important to strictly follow the replacement schedule every 130,000 km. Weak points include the heat exchanger, front crankshaft seal, and EGR valve.
