Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the TD42 engine according to the catalog is 340 kg. The TD42 engine number is located at the junction of the block and the cylinder head. One of the most reliable diesel engines in the world is known for its noisy operation and vibrations. One common issue is the stripping of the drive splines of the vacuum pump in freezing temperatures. The oil pressure sensor is sensitive to water, and replacing it can be quite expensive. On high mileage, leaks in the pump and cylinder head gasket are common. The timing gear wheels wear out over time, causing misalignment of the phases and engine misfiring. Due to poor quality diesel fuel, the partition walls between the combustion chambers crack due to detonation.
