Engine Overview and Common Failures

In the early years of production, the lobes of the camshaft quickly wore out in gasoline engines. The timing chain between the camshafts often stretches in 16-valve engines. The first-generation turbocharger often fails due to clogging of its filter. The 8-valve engines of the second generation are more reliable and practically have no weak points. Diesel engines here also have typical problems with the soot filter and EGR.
