Engine Overview and Common Failures

The engine number of the Mazda S5-DPTS is located at the junction with the gearbox. There was a recall due to oil entering the intake at high speeds. Most of the problems described on the forum are related to the temperamental diesel particulate filter. During the regeneration process of the DPF in this engine, the oil level can rise sharply. If regeneration occurs too frequently, the oil becomes diluted, which is dangerous for the engine. Owners also complain about periodic significant changes in fuel consumption.
