Engine Overview and Common Failures

Despite its modest workload, this diesel engine is quite resourceful. The fuel system from Siemens is reliable, although it is very sensitive to air pockets. It's also common for the control valves PCV and VCV on the fuel pump to fail here. Pay close attention to the condition of the timing belt, as its breakage can cause valve damage. Other weak points of the engine include the VKG membrane and the crankshaft damper pulley.
