Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the M9T engine according to the catalog is 217 kg. The engine number M9T is located at the junction of the block with the gearbox. Injectors' corrosion due to design features, water often gets onto the cylinder head and the injectors get corroded. When removing the injectors, rust usually falls directly into the engine cylinder block, where it acts as an abrasive. This often leads to scoring and excessive oil consumption. Timing chain stretching is one of the well-known problems of this engine. Sometimes it stretches and requires replacement already at a mileage of 100 - 150 thousand kilometers. Typical problems include the EGR valve, which tends to carbonize, and in most versions, there is also a limited lifespan of the diesel particulate filter. Other weak points include frequent detachment of the intercooler pipe, leading to air leakage.
