Engine Overview and Common Failures
The engine number B57 is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. The most well-known problem with this diesel engine is the contamination of the intake manifold and its swirl flaps, which results in a loss of power and unstable engine operation. In severe cases, the flap shaft breaks and the manifold needs to be replaced.
As for the timing chain, generally, the timing chain of engines from the modular series lasts for 200-250 thousand kilometers or even more. However, for powerful diesel engines with high torque, replacement at 100,000 kilometers is not uncommon.
Other weak points are common to almost any modern diesel engine: it is necessary to carefully monitor the cleanliness of the cooling system, the quality of oil and consumables, as well as periodically clean the intake manifold and EGR system.
