Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the D4EB engine according to the catalog is 201.4 kg. The engine number can be found at the junction with the gearbox. The camshaft is prone to wear. This power unit does not tolerate savings on the quality of fuel and lubricants, and also requires strict compliance with the maintenance schedule and replacement of consumables. Otherwise, you may face wear of the camshaft lobes or rocker arms. The fuel system in this diesel engine is equipped with a very reliable Common Rail Bosch CP3 system, but it quickly wears out and then starts leaking injectors due to poor diesel fuel. Even with one malfunctioning injector, cases of piston damage have been reported. According to the regulations, the timing belt should be replaced every 90,000 kilometers, but sometimes it doesn't last that long. Since its replacement is complex and expensive, owners prefer to drive until the last moment. The belt can break even due to a failure of the water pump, and its rupture can cause valve bending. Other weaknesses of this diesel engine include glow plugs and their relays with a relatively short lifespan, the crankshaft damper pulley, the drive belt tensioner, and the turbocharger actuator rod. The intercooler hose often comes off and the EGR valve quickly gets clogged.
