Overview and Common Failures

Body and Interior The paintwork is very thin, but the body is galvanized, so chips do not quickly lead to rust. The chrome coating often peels off after the first winter, and the headlights constantly fog up. The materials in the interior are cheap and not durable, insects settle in the panels immediately. The leather covering on the steering wheel and front seats wears out the fastest. Electrical issues occur regularly, especially with sensors and keyless entry system. Engine The 2.0-liter gasoline engine G4KD is simple in design and quite reliable. However, its reputation has been greatly affected by the problem of cylinder scoring. In the early years of production, the phase regulators often failed and the timing chain stretched. The updated 2.0-liter engine G4NA that replaced it also suffers from cylinder scoring. The 1.7-liter diesel engine D4FD is rare and demands high-quality fuel. The 2.0-liter diesel engine D4HA lasts long, but only with proper maintenance. Transmission The manual transmissions M6CF4 and M6GF1 are reliable, although there were some problems in the first year. The 6-speed automatic transmissions A6MF1 and A6LF2 also had concerns only in the first year of production. However, if not maintained properly and used very actively without oil changes, the hydraulic block does not last long. The all-wheel drive transmission is susceptible to moisture, causing rust and damage to the splines. Suspension Before the facelift, the suspension was quite weak, especially the shocks and springs. It was thoroughly improved during the update, and everything became more or less smooth. The most common issues are the stabilizer struts, support bearings, and hub bearings. The steering rack may start making noise before reaching 100,000 km, but it was updated in 2015.
