Kia Sportage 2

The second generation of the Kia Sportage in the KM body was produced at the company's factories from 2004 to 2010. Initially, the cars were imported from South Korea, and then assembly was launched in Slovakia and Kaliningrad. There is a similar crossover, the Hyundai Tucson, in the JM body with main units and components. Sportage line: JA (1993 - 2006) SL (2010 - 2016) QL (2015 - 2021) NQ5 (2021 - present)

Overview and Common Failures

Body and Interior The paint coating is durable, but the body is not galvanized and chips rust immediately. Corrosion quickly develops along the edges, brackets, or around the windshield. The interior is cheap in terms of materials, with weak resistance to wear and no sound insulation. Electrical failures often occur due to oxidation of contacts or weak wiring. Engine The 2.0-liter gasoline engine G4GC is reliable and has a long lifespan. It is usually let down by low-quality parts, especially rollers or timing belts. The 2.0-liter diesel engine D4EA is not the best choice, as it requires a lot of maintenance. Weak points include fuel equipment, glow plugs, and oil pumps. Any drop in oil pressure in the system leads to bearing failure. Transmission The 5-speed manual transmission M5GF1 does not cause any special problems for owners. The only issue is that sometimes the bolt securing the shift mechanism unscrews. The 4-speed automatic transmission F4A42 from Mitsubishi is also quite reliable and rarely causes concerns. The main transmission problems are related to short-lived CV joints and splines. Some components of the all-wheel drive system also have a limited lifespan. Suspension The suspension in this crossover is sturdy, and almost all elements can last up to 100,000 km. The main problem is rust, with corrosion of the strut mounts being particularly dangerous. The steering rack quickly starts to make knocking noises, but it is possible to drive with the noise for a long time. The brakes are quite weak, plus the calipers constantly seize or hoses burst.
