Overview and Common Failures
Body and Interior The paintwork here is thin and quickly chips, but the body itself does not rust. Online reviews complain about the short lifespan of the chrome coating and frequent fogging of the headlights. The interior is simply huge and pleases with very rich equipment for that time. However, the finishing materials here are very cheap and are not known for their durability. The electrical system causes many problems here, especially the multimedia system which frequently breaks down. Daytime running lights and fuel tank lid lock are also often prone to failure.
Engine The 3.3-liter power unit G6DF is known for its high fuel and oil consumption. Its replacement, the 3.0-liter engine G6DG, has the same issues with excessive oil consumption. Moreover, due to the direct injection system, the valves here quickly become clogged with carbon deposits. The 2.2-liter D4HB diesel engine is very reliable, but only with proper maintenance. Trying to save on diesel fuel can lead to the failure of the fuel system's high-pressure pump.
Transmission The 6-speed automatic transmissions A6LF2 and A6LF3 are known for their excellent performance. The main problems here are related to components of the all-wheel drive transmission. It is necessary to pay close attention to the splined joints and regularly lubricate them.
Suspension The suspension, although not very durable, has inexpensive and widely available spare parts. At 100,000 km, the stabilizer bushings, wheel bearings, and ball joints are replaced. Springs and shock absorbers, especially the rear ones, have a slightly shorter lifespan. The steering rack may start making noise quite early, but it does not significantly affect its operation.
Braking system The braking system is not very efficient, plus the electronic parking brake constantly seizes up.
