Skoda Rapid 2

The second-generation Skoda Rapid in the NK body represents a notable evolution from the first-generation sedan. Many markets also feature a Volkswagen Polo Sedan with similar engineering. Additionally, the Rapid lineup includes the NH model (2012 - 2020).

Overview and Common Failures

This liftback was sold in Europe from 2012 to 2017, and after the restyling from 2017 to 2019. Front-wheel drive versions were available with various petrol engines. In 2015, the engine lineup was updated, and then remained unchanged until the end of the model's production. Before the restyling, the following versions were presented:

  • 1.2 liters, CGPC, 75 hp, 112 Nm, 5-speed manual transmission MQ200.
  • 1.4 liters, CAXA, 122 hp, 200 Nm, 7-speed robotic transmission DQ200.
  • 1.4 liters, CZCA, 125 hp, 200 Nm, 7-speed robotic transmission DQ200.
  • 1.6 liters, CFNA, 105 hp, 153 Nm, 5-speed manual transmission MQ200.
  • 1.6 liters, CFNA, 105 hp, 153 Nm, 6-speed automatic transmission AQ160.
  • 1.6 liters, CWVB, 90 hp, 155 Nm, 5-speed manual transmission MQ200.
  • 1.6 liters, CWVA, 110 hp, 155 Nm, 5-speed manual transmission MQ200.
  • 1.6 liters, CWVA, 110 hp, 155 Nm, 6-speed automatic transmission AQ160.

After the restyling, the engine range remained largely the same:

  • 1.4 liters, CZCA, 125 hp, 200 Nm, 7-speed robotic transmission DQ200.
  • 1.6 liters, CWVB, 90 hp, 155 Nm, 5-speed manual transmission MQ200.
  • 1.6 liters, CWVA, 110 hp, 155 Nm, 5-speed manual transmission MQ200.
  • 1.6 liters, CWVA, 110 hp, 155 Nm, 6-speed automatic transmission AQ160.

In addition to petrol variants, diesel versions 1.4 TDI and 1.6 TDI, as well as the 1.0 TSI turbocharged petrol engine, were also available on the European market.

Overview

Body and Interior: Despite the thin and chip-prone paintwork, the model benefits from galvanization, preventing rusting. However, the soft glass and short-lived chrome coating are notable drawbacks. Inside, the ergonomics are well-thought-out, utilizing high-quality materials and offering a convenient trunk. Though the sound insulation is somewhat lacking, it fares better than competitors in its class.

Electrical System: The electrical components generally operate smoothly, except for occasional stereo system malfunctions.

Engine: The 1.6-liter gasoline engine CWVA is known for reliability, though it may experience issues with oil consumption and seal leaks. The latest 1.4-liter turbocharged engine CZCA has no major issues, but concerns include the turbocharger actuator and water pump leaks.

Transmission: The 5-speed manual transmission MQ200 generally performs well, with minor complaints such as noise from the primary shaft bearing and sensitivity to slipping in the differential. The 6-speed automatic transmission AQ160 by Aisin is decent but requires regular oil changes every 60,000 km for optimal lifespan. The updated 7-speed DQ200 robotized transmission shows improved durability, yet occasional failures in the mechatronics unit and rapid clutch wear persist.

Suspension: The suspension offers maneuverability with a slightly stiff ride and modest ground clearance. Reliability is generally high, with only stabilizer struts prone to quick wear. Steering and braking systems on the liftback receive no major complaints.
