Overview and Common Failures

From 2016 to 2021, this crossover was sold before its restyling. Buyers were offered four gasoline engine options and one diesel, with a choice between manual and robotic transmission:

Front-wheel drive versions:

  • 1.4 liters, CZCA, 125 horsepower, 200 Nm, with a 6-speed manual transmission MQ350.
  • 1.4 liters, CZEA, 150 horsepower, 250 Nm, with a 6-speed robotic transmission DQ250.

All-wheel drive versions:

  • 1.4 liters, CZEA, 150 horsepower, 250 Nm, with a 6-speed manual transmission MQ350.
  • 1.4 liters, CZDA, 150 horsepower, 250 Nm, with a 6-speed robotic transmission DQ250.
  • 2.0 liters, CZPA, 180 horsepower, 320 Nm, with a 7-speed robotic transmission DQ381.

Diesel option:

  • 2.0 liters, DBGC, 150 horsepower, 340 Nm, with a 7-speed robotic transmission DQ381.

Overview

Body and Interior: While the body of this model is galvanized and resistant to rust, there are issues with the paint chipping easily, particularly with the chrome coating. Soft glass and foggy headlights and taillights are also common complaints among owners. On the inside, the spacious interior boasts high-quality materials, although some owners have reported squeaky seats and door handles from early on. The electrical system generally performs well, though occasional malfunctions with the stereo and cruise control have been noted.

Engine: The 1.4 TSI turbo engines with CZCA, CZDA, and CZEA codes are generally reliable, but there can be occasional issues such as turbine actuator jams or timing regulator bolt loosening. The CZEA version with the ACT system may experience accelerated wear on the camshafts' lobes. The 2.0-liter turbocharged CZPA engine is also fairly reliable, though oil consumption and timing chain stretching can become problems after 100,000 km. Coolant leaks due to pump housing warping are another issue with this engine. The 2.0-liter diesel DFGA engine is known for its longevity but can suffer from intake contamination, soot filter issues, and EGR valve problems.

Transmission: The 6-speed manual gearbox MQ350 is rare but generally reliable, while the automatic transmissions (DQ250, DQ381, and DQ500) are robust with proper maintenance. Regular oil changes are important to prevent clogging of the mechatronic unit. The Haldex clutch-based all-wheel-drive system is durable with proper care, though early versions may have had issues with leaking angular gearboxes.

Suspension: The suspension of this crossover is sturdy and long-lasting, though it can be stiff. Weak points may include stabilizer struts and hub bearings. Steering rack noise may develop around 50,000 km, typically remedied by replacing the bushing. Generally, there are no major complaints about the braking system, aside from issues with brake pads in the initial years.
