Renault Stepway 2

The Renault Stepway second generation in the B52S body style has been available on the European market since 2012, but it only appeared in our country in 2014 and production immediately began at AvtoVAZ. This model differs from the regular Sandero with its higher ground clearance and off-road equipment. The Sandero models also include: B90 (2008-2014), B90S (2008-2014), and B52 (2012-present).

The car was equipped with engines:

Overview and Common Failures

Body The paint coating on the body is weak, and the car quickly gets chips and even cracks. However, the body itself holds up quite well, and corrosion may only occur on the fifth door. Interior Compared to the first generation model, the interior has significantly improved. However, its budget nature can still be felt in the materials used for finishing, sound insulation, and assembly quality. The electrical system often experiences failures with the steering wheel switch and windshield defroster. Engine The 1.6-liter 8-valve engine K7M with a cast iron block is known for its extensive lifespan, but it regularly suffers from electrical malfunctions, as well as leaks of lubricant and antifreeze. Hydraulic lifters are not provided, and if the timing belt breaks, the valves may get bent. The 1.6-liter 16-valve engine K4M features hydraulic lifters, a more reliable ignition system with separate coils, but it has the same issues. The 1.6-liter 16-valve power unit H4M has an aluminum cylinder block and a timing chain drive. It rarely causes minor problems, although occasionally consumes oil. In Europe, completely different engines were installed: the 1.0-liter naturally aspirated engine B4D, the 0.9-liter turbocharged engine H4Bt, as well as the 1.5-liter diesel engine K9K in three modifications. Transmission All models come with the JR5 manual gearbox with cable drive, which is quite reliable. However, on high mileage, the shaft bearings may make noise. The Easy'R robotized transmission was offered with the K7M engine only for a couple of years and did not enjoy much popularity. This transmission was known for its jerky operation and had a modest clutch lifespan. The 4-speed DP2 automatic transmission has numerous issues that are covered in a separate article. The City version is equipped with the H4M power unit and the JF015E continuously variable transmission. This combination appeared quite recently, and reliability statistics have not been collected yet. Suspension The model's large ground clearance and energy-intensive suspension are its distinctive features, but not everything is perfect in terms of reliability. Before reaching 100,000 km, the following components may require replacement: stabilizer struts, ball joints, tie rod ends, and wheel bearings. The steering rack is sturdy and performs excellently, but the lifespan of the braking system is insufficient.
