From 2009 to 2012, the previous version of the hatchback and estate model was available with various petrol and diesel engines, including 1.4 liters (A14XEL, A14XER, A14NEL, A14NET), 1.6 liters (A16XER, A16LET), and more powerful options such as 1.6 liters (A16LET) and 2.0 liters (A20DTH).
With the start of the restyling in 2012, the model in the coupe, sedan, hatchback, and estate body styles received an updated exterior, although the engine lineup remained largely unchanged.
In 2013, the manufacturer significantly revised the engine lineup of this model. New engines were introduced, such as 1.6 liters (A16XHT, A16SHT), and updated versions of existing ones (A14NEL, A14NET, A16XER), as well as diesel modifications (A17DTC, A17DTS, A20DTR).
In 2014, the European versions of the model transitioned to the Euro 6 standard, which required an update to the engine lineup. New engine modifications were introduced for both petrol (B14NEL, B14NET, B16XER, B16SHL, B16SHT) and diesel (B16DTL, B16DTH) versions. The OPC model also received a new engine, the B20NFT.
The Opel Astra J proves to be less finicky in its usage compared to its predecessor, the Opel Astra H. However, it's not without its drawbacks. For instance, pairing a petrol engine with a proprietary automatic transmission presents some challenges. Diesel variants with automatic transmissions are also quite scarce. However, the GTC variant has gained its popularity not by chance; its reputation for reliability and user-friendliness speaks for itself.
