Overview and Common Failures
Body and Interior
The paint coating is good, and the body itself resists corrosion well. The only rust can be found in the wheel arches, around the roof rails, and on suspension components.
The interior, however, is made of cheap materials and is creaky, with poor sound insulation.
The electrical system regularly malfunctions due to oxidation of contacts and weak wiring.
Engine
The 2.0-liter G4GC engine is very reliable, but it's important to keep an eye on the condition of the timing belt.
The 2.7-liter V6 G6BA engine consumes a lot of fuel but has a long lifespan. However, its intake valves can become loose and enter the cylinders.
The 2.0-liter D4EA diesel engine quickly builds up carbon deposits and requires regular cleaning.
Any decrease in oil pressure in the system leads to bearing failure.
Transmission
The 5-speed manual M5GF1 transmission has a good lifespan and rarely causes issues.
The 4-speed F4A42 automatic transmission from Mitsubishi is also reliable and trouble-free.
The main concerns are with the short-lived CV joints and splines in the transmission.
Components of the all-wheel drive system also wear out relatively quickly.
Suspension
The suspension in this model lasts a long time, with corrosion causing more problems than wear.
The steering rack also moves quite a bit and starts knocking after 200,000 km of mileage.
Weak points of the brake system include calipers and very unreliable hoses.
