The pre-facelift version, available in sedan, liftback, and wagon body styles, was offered from 2008 to 2013. It provided a variety of engine options, including petrol and diesel variants. Some of them included:

- 1.6-liter A16LET with 180 hp and 230 Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission M32.
- 2.0-liter A20NHT with 220 hp and 350 Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission F40.
Diesel variants:
- 2.0-liter A20DTL with 110 hp and 260 Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission M32.
- 2.0-liter A20DTJ with 131 hp and 300 Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission M32.
After the facelift, the version in the same body shapes was sold from 2013 to 2017. The updated engine lineup included:

- 2.0-liter A20NFT with 250 hp and 400 Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission F40.

- 2.0-liter A20DTH with 163 hp and 350 Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission F40.
Additionally, European versions of the model received a new engine lineup compliant with Euro 6 standards.
Among the drawbacks of the Opel Insignia, owners note limited space in the rear seats, small exterior mirrors, a cramped trunk, and high fuel consumption. Additionally, there may be unpleasant noises in the cabin, ineffective heating in severe cold, ergonomic shortcomings in the cabin, and unsatisfactory paint quality.
