Overview and Common Failures
Body and Interior: The paint coating here is weak and chips start to rust quite quickly. The corrosion resistance of the facelift version is slightly higher, but the interior is cheap in terms of materials, lacks sound insulation, and immediately starts squeaking. Electrical issues are quite common, due to poor wiring quality and contacts.
Engine: The gasoline engines 11186, 21126, and 21127 are reliable and only have minor concerns. Owners complain about unreliable sensors, thermostats, and auxiliary equipment. The main problem is the timing belt breaking, as the valves tend to bend here. In 2018, these engines were upgraded and received non-interference pistons.
Transmission: The manual transmissions 2180 and 2181 are quite noisy and have imprecise gear shifting. The AMT 2182 robotized transmission is decent in terms of reliability but operates nervously, with jerks and jolts. The best choice is the 4-speed Jatco automatic transmission, but it is not widely available.
Chassis: The liftback's suspension is very energy-consuming, reasonably durable, and cost-effective in terms of spare parts. The steering rack also lasts a long time, and the only potential issue may be the power steering. The front disc brakes are normal, but many complain about the rear drums.
