Overview and Common Failures
Body and Interior
The paint on the body is thin and prone to chipping, but the body itself is galvanized and does not rust. On forums, the car is criticized for its weak chrome coating and constantly fogging headlights. The interior of the crossover looks nice and the finishing materials are relatively good. However, the plastic and all the leather coatings here have poor resistance to wear.
Electrical System
There are very few problems with the electrical system, as the equipment is reliable Japanese-made.
Engine
The 3.5-liter V6 engine VQ35DE, with proper maintenance, can reach up to 500,000 km. The key is to avoid overheating the engine, as the aluminum heads can warp. Also, keep an eye on the catalytic converter as its fragments can get into the cylinders if it gets damaged.
Transmission
The Jatco JF010E continuously variable transmission (CVT) is quite reliable, but only with very careful use. This transmission is sensitive to sudden accelerations and wheel spin, and its repair can be expensive. In the later models, a newer Jatco JF017E CVT appeared. In terms of reliability, it is similar to its predecessor but requires cleaner oil. The seals of the transfer case or the differential in the all-wheel-drive system often leak.
Suspension
The suspension of this crossover is quite reliable, but it does have a couple of weak points. The stabilizer bushings have a low lifespan, as well as the wheel bearings. The steering rack and the power steering are also on the weaker side, but they are quite affordable. The brake discs are not the most durable, but there are many high-quality alternatives available.
