Overview and Common Failures

Body and Interior The paintwork is thin and easily gets chipped, but the body is galvanized and does not rust. The only weak points are the bolts that secure the overlays, as they quickly rust. The interior is made of hard plastic, but it has good resistance to wear. On specialized forums, there are complaints about poor sound insulation and rattling windows. There are also complaints about malfunctions of the onboard computer and low quality of the standard music system. Engine The 1.5-liter turbocharged engine GW4G15B is reliable and does not have any particular problems. Owners only note insufficient power and high fuel consumption. On the forum, you can find complaints about the modest lifespan of spark plugs and ignition coils. As for the 2.0-liter diesel engine GW4D20B, there is no detailed statistics, but so far everything is fine. Transmission The 6-speed manual transmissions CM52, CS12, CS14 are good, but there are a couple of weak points. Firstly, many complain about difficulties when shifting from first to second gear. Secondly, a number of owners have had to replace the clutch before reaching 50,000 km mileage. The 6-speed automatic transmission 6F24, produced by Hyundai, has earned a good reputation. Sometimes the automatic transmission does not come out of parking, requiring the engine to be turned off and restarted. The all-wheel drive system with BorgWarner electromagnetic clutch is trouble-free, but sometimes it cannot withstand freezing temperatures and the transfer box seal cracks. Suspension The suspension here is reliable, and usually only the struts and stabilizer bushings need to be replaced. Ball joints, rear bushes, and support bearings may need to be replaced by 100,000 km mileage. The steering rack is quite sturdy, but tie rods and ball joints do not last particularly long. The braking system does not have any major issues, and there is a choice of non-original parts available.
