Overview and Common Failures
Body and Interior The paintwork here is a bit weak, but the body metal is thick and does not rust quickly. On the forum, they only complain about peeling chrome and falling plastic overlays. The interior is spacious and the finishing materials are not bad compared to its predecessor. Owners often complain about dull headlights and unreliable air conditioner radiator. Seat heating or electric folding mirrors also often fail. There are quite a few glitches with the multimedia system, the head unit turns off, and the navigation malfunctions.
Engine The 6.2-liter L86 engine is quite reliable and rarely bothers its owners. However, due to the direct injection system, it is not recommended to use AI-92 gasoline. Also, due to poor oil quality, the hydraulic lifters jam and wear out the cam lobes.
Transmission The 6-speed GM 6L80 automatic transmission works without problems with regular lubricant changes. However, there are cases described online where the hydrotransformer was replaced at 200,000 km mileage. The 8-speed GM 8L90 automatic transmission has so far proved itself only from the positive side. The all-wheel drive transmission does not cause trouble with normal maintenance. There was a recall campaign for the early years of the car due to the failure of the all-wheel drive in freezing temperatures.
Suspension The SUV suspension in general is reliable, but there are a couple of weak points. The shock absorbers do not last long, especially when it comes to the trendy Magnetic Ride Control. All rubber elements constantly tear: cushions, bushings, and various sleeves. There are almost no complaints about the steering rack, it only has some play at high mileages. The brakes here are weak and most owners replace them with advanced analogs.
