Overview and Common Failures
Body and Interior: The paint coating is not particularly durable, but the body is treated and does not rust. Complaints can be easily found online about quickly wearing glass and short-lived chrome. The interior is quite cheap in terms of finishing materials, but it has good resistance to wear and tear.
Electrical system: Electrical issues in the car are rare, and one can only complain about multimedia glitches.
Engine: The 1.8-liter engine VAZ 21179 is reliable overall, but it does have a couple of weak points. Despite improvements from the manufacturer, it still consumes a significant amount of oil. The factory-installed engine comes with non-interference pistons, so if the timing belt breaks, the valves may get bent.
Transmission: The 5-speed manual transmission Renault JR5 works smoothly and has no reliability issues. Occasionally, owners may encounter noise from the bearings, but this usually happens at high mileage.
Suspension: The suspension is stiff, but all its components have decent lifespan and the cost is low. On forums, most complaints are about squeaking bushings and knocking shocks.
Steering and Braking: No major problems have been identified with the steering system and brakes.
