Overview and Common Failures
Body The paint coating of the body is not durable, the body quickly gets chipped and they immediately turn yellow. Corrosion appears at the joints and edges after the first winter. Interior The materials used for the interior are not of good quality, they start squeaking right away, and it gets worse over time. There is no proper sound insulation, the cabin is cramped, especially in the back, and the front seats are uncomfortable. But the biggest headache for owners is frequent electrical failures, and the more features in the configuration, the more problems the car will cause you. Engine The 1.6-liter engines VAZ 21126 and VAZ 21127 are not significantly different, and their malfunctions are similar. Sensors often fail, the thermostat gets stuck, and oil leaks are not uncommon. The most critical failure is a broken timing belt due to the roller jamming or water pump failure. Transmission The manual transmission VAZ 2170 is known for its vague shifting, fast wear of synchronizers, and a constantly rattling release bearing. The new VAZ 2180 with cable drive is significantly more pleasant to use. Suspension There are no major issues with the vehicle's suspension. The suspension is versatile and fairly reliable. Typically, steering tie rod ends, wheel hub bearings, and strut mount bearings are replaced.
