Body and Interior
The paintwork is quite weak, but the body itself holds up fairly well. Rust quickly develops on the edges, as well as on the fifth door and around it. The interior trim materials are cheap and squeaky, and there is no soundproofing at all. Its advantages include spaciousness and decent durability, except for the steering wheel. The electrical system is notorious for frequent malfunctions, and the wiring often breaks.
Engine
The Renault K4M petrol engine with a cast iron block has a huge resource. Keep an eye out for oil leaks and the condition of the timing belt. The VAZ 21129 petrol engine is louder, but just as reliable and durable. In 2018, VAZ engines received non-interference pistons, and the valves no longer bend.
Transmission
The Renault JR5 manual gearbox is highly regarded by owners. Complaints can only be found online about oil leaks and frozen control cables.
Suspension
The suspension is reliable and can last up to 100,000 km without replacement, and the price of spare parts is not high. The steering rack also performs excellently and only knocks on very high mileage.
