Overview and Common Failures

Body and InteriorThe body here is not hopeless and can be in quite decent condition with proper care. Rust is easiest to find on the edges, exhaust system elements, or frame. The interior of the car is spacious, and it also has a fairly spacious trunk. The finishing materials are cheap, the assembly quality is poor, and there is no sound insulation. On the forum, people complain about the weak heater, but you can find a version with two heaters.EngineThe 3.0-liter gasoline engine G6AT is quite durable, but very fuel-consuming. There were many complaints about the engines of the first years, often they broke down at 100,000 km. Then the quality improved, and now most complaints are related to lubricant consumption. The 2.5-liter atmospheric diesel D4BA is quite reliable, but lacks power. The 2.5-liter turbo diesel D4BF is considered the optimal choice for such a car. Under heavy loads, diesel engines can simply crack the cylinder head.TransmissionThe 5-speed manual gearbox V5MT1 is quite durable and reliable. Owners only complain about frequent oil leaks and a low clutch life. The 4-speed automatic V4AW2 is also good and does not cause major complaints. However, it does not like sudden accelerations, and active owners regularly repair the automatic transmission. Weak points of the automatic transmission include control cables and rpm sensors. The full-time transmission here has a viscous coupling and does not cause problems when properly maintained.ChassisThe suspension is quite durable, and the parts are inexpensive and compatible with Mitsubishi Pajero. The ball joints and bushings give in the fastest, followed by shock absorbers. Diesel versions of the car have leaf springs at the rear, which can break under overload. The weak point of the steering system is the unreliable universal joint.BrakesThe front brakes are disc, and the rear brakes are drum. Everything is simple here and works without problems.
