Chevrolet Captiva C140

The Chevrolet Captiva in the C140 body type was produced at several plants from 2011 to 2018, but it was only offered until 2015 in our market because GM left the Russian market. The equivalent of this model was the popular crossover Opel Antara, which was successful in many countries. The Captiva family also includes the C100 model.

Overview and Common Failures

Owners of the pre-facelift crossover did not particularly complain about corrosion, and after the update, the body did not worsen. The only part that rusts quickly is the fifth door. Interior The car's interior looks rich, but the finishing materials are not of very good quality and wear out quickly. This applies to the instrument panel, door cards, and seats. Electrics There are very few electrical problems, and almost all of them are related to wiring glitches. Experienced technicians have accumulated a lot of experience in fixing such malfunctions. Engine The updated engine range includes a pair of gasoline engines and the 2.2-liter Z22D1 diesel engine. So far, the engine running on heavy fuel has not shown any issues, but it may be difficult to find mechanics familiar with the fuel system if problems arise. The weak point of the 2.4-liter A24XE gasoline engine is the timing chain drive, which usually has a lifespan ranging from 50,000 to 150,000 km, and its replacement is quite expensive. Ignoring any signs of malfunction and continuing to drive can significantly increase the cost. The 3.0-liter V6 engine with the A30XH or A30XF designation is known for its increased oil consumption, but it has not been reported to have any serious breakdowns so far. Transmission The manual F40-6 gearbox of the crossover is relatively strong, but the 400 Nm of torque from the diesel engine can put a strain on it quite quickly. However, this is only the case for excessively aggressive drivers; under normal operating conditions, it lasts a long time and may occasionally have minor oil leaks. The 6T40 and 6T45 automatic transmissions are considered to be quite problematic, as they can be jerky and prone to overheating. We have described all their weak points in two separate articles. Suspension The suspension of this model does not cause much trouble, and only the shocks and stabilizer bushings often need to be replaced. The shocks lose their effectiveness relatively quickly, but it only affects comfort, and they can still be used for up to 150,000-200,000 kilometers. The power steering often fails due to a drop in fluid level in the reservoir. The steering rack may make noise almost from new, but it does not affect its reliability. Owners do not particularly complain about the brakes, so it seems that everything is fine.
