Overview and Common Failures

Opel Adam's 3-door hatchback model with the M13 body remained largely unchanged from 2012 to 2019. Initially, it offered three petrol engines, all with manual transmissions and front-wheel drive. In 2014, meeting Euro 6 standards prompted updates to the engine lineup:

  • 1.0-liter B10XFL (90 hp, 170 Nm) with a 6-speed manual (M22)
  • 1.0-liter B10XFT (115 hp, 170 Nm) with a 6-speed manual (M22)
  • 1.2-liter B12XEL (69 hp, 115 Nm) with a 5-speed manual (F17)
  • 1.4-liter B14XEL (87 hp, 130 Nm) with a 5-speed manual (F17)
  • 1.4-liter B14XEL (87 hp, 130 Nm) with a 5-speed automated manual (Easytronic)
  • 1.4-liter B14XER (100 hp, 130 Nm) with a 5-speed manual (F17)
  • 1.4-liter B14NEH (150 hp, 220 Nm) with a 6-speed manual (M32)

In 2018, complying with Euro 6d-TEMP standards led to further updates:

  • 1.0-liter D10XFL (90 hp, 170 Nm) with a 6-speed manual (M22)
  • 1.0-liter D10XFT (115 hp, 170 Nm) with a 6-speed manual (M22)
  • 1.2-liter D12XEL (69 hp, 115 Nm) with a 5-speed manual (F17)
  • 1.4-liter D14XEL (87 hp, 130 Nm) with a 5-speed manual (F17)
  • 1.4-liter D14XER (100 hp, 130 Nm) with a 5-speed manual (F17)
  • 1.4-liter D14NEH (150 hp, 220 Nm) with a 6-speed manual (M32)

Certain markets also saw gas-powered variants based on the B14XEL and D14XEL engines. These updates reflected Opel's commitment to both modern environmental standards and providing consumers with a diverse range of efficient engine options.

Summary

At the moment, drivers are noticing only minor issues. Typically, brakes, suspension, lighting, and the engine remain unnoticed. However, when it comes to the chassis, its connection to the Corsa becomes evident. Opel Adam experiences some problems with springs and shock absorbers. Potential owners should also be vigilant about possible oil leaks. Occasionally, there are instances that may require special attention.

If you are looking for a small car with character, Opel Adam is the right choice. In comparison to Audi A1, Mini, or Fiat 500, it offers excellent exterior aesthetics, a stylish interior, and good handling.
