Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the PY-VPS engine assembly is 125 kg. The Mazda PY-VPS engine number is located at the junction with the gearbox. Owners of cars with this engine often encounter oil consumption issues. Severe drop in lubrication level often leads to replacement of connecting rod bearings. The engine also does not tolerate poor fuel quality, as it quickly clogs the fuel system. Ignition coils fail due to inferior fuel. They are quite expensive to replace. The serpentine belt can break due to cracks on the plastic tensioner pulley. Just like on all Skyactiv-G units, the electronic thermostat regularly fails here.
