Engine Overview and Common Failures
The weight of the B12S1 engine according to the catalog is 105 kg. The engine number B12S1 is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. The most well-known problem of this unit is the too narrow oil channel jet, which supplies lubrication to the cylinder head. It quickly gets clogged with deposits and wears out the camshaft and rocker due to lack of oil. It just needs to be reamed out.
Another weak point here is the valve of the crankcase ventilation system. Due to wear, it can get stuck in the closed position, which will immediately lead to oil leaks, or it can get stuck in the open position, causing air suction and fluctuating RPM.
Owners of cars with this engine often complain about failures of the auxiliary equipment: the starter breaks down, the thermostat sticks, the water pump leaks, and the generator bearings make noise.
Other shortcomings include the ignition coil and its high-voltage wires not lasting very long, the teeth of the throttle servo drive crumbling, and the fuel injectors getting clogged.
